This Christmas(Movie Review)

It's Christmas time and Ma'Dere (Devine) has know idea what's in store for her as she prepares for the arrival of the Whitfield clan (her children). She is a single mother of six, disappointed because her husband left her to pursue his love for music when she gave birth to the youngest, Baby (Brown) who is now about to graduate and wants to sing, but is scared of how his mom may react. Her biggest surprise is when her oldest, Quentin Jr (Elba)., who also left to pursue his love for music and hasn't been home in four years, shows up for the family holiday affair. Along with her other children, Lisa (King), Kelli (Leal), Claude (Short) and Mel (London), Ma'Dere and her love interest Joe (Lindo) will have a Christmas to remember.
Just because your family is dysfunctional, doesn't mean that you can't still come together and have fun, and more importantly that you don't love each other. That is the message you'll get from this movie. But the performances by this all star cast was awesome, and the girls are gonna love Chris Brown, who I got to admit, the boy can sang. I mean I knew he could sing, but in this movie he sangs. The last thing I got to say is Regina King and baby oil, you will be rolling with laughter. This Christmas is my pick out of holiday movies, a must see.

The Mist (Moive Review)

Ok - I have been screaming and I have been begging for someone to make a good horror film. Well thanks to director Frank Darabont for giving us The Mist, a film based off a Stephen King novella about a small town, that after a freakish storm, encounters a weird and heavy mist. It's not the fog that the town folks need to worry about, instead it is the strange, but deadly critters that pop out of nowhere that has a small band of people stranded inside of the town supermarket. They soon find out that besides these creatures from the mist, human primal instincts will become their worst nightmare as they fight for life, even to the point of turning on each other.

I will say that The Mist has been long over due. It has suspense, it has monsters, blood and gore and of course some dumb ass people, all the elements for a good horror movie. To be honest, what's really scary about this movie is the reaction of the people and how friends will turn to enemies at the point of crucial and critical times. When it comes down to survival, who will you sacrifice just to live a little longer? I didn't mention it earlier, but big ups to Stephen King for writing a great book, continuing to show us why he is still one of the kings of horror.

Starring: Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Harden, Laurie Holden, Andre Braugher and William Sadler

Beowulf (Movie Review)

There have been several tales of Beowulf, an epic poem about a great hero, but none quite like this one. This one graces the big screen in 3D, telling the story of how King Hrothgar's village is being terrorized by the hideous and monstrous Grendel. It appears as though the creature is without match until Beowulf and his band of merry men come to take on the task of killing the beast. When Beowulf single handily destroys the monster, he must infiltrate the bowels of darkness to seek out Grendel's mother(a sea demon), in an attempt to kill her.
But her charm overwhelms him and he is left to live out his days under her shameless curse. This is one of the best 3D movies that has graced the big screen in sometime. The film is entirely done in digital animation with great likenesses to the characters doing the voice overs. Director Robert Zemeckis (no stranger to animated films) did a wonderful job, this visual treat of a movie is literally in your face the whole time. If you have the opportunity, try seeing this on an Imax screen - you'll love it. Although this may seem like a family movie, beware because there is graphic violence and sexual overtones. Just like 300, this is an instant classic.

Voices by: Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, Angelina Jolie, Robin Wright Penn and John Malkovich
Directed by: Robert Zemeckis
Rated: PG-13

No Country For Old Men (Movie Review)

There's a song titled "If I Had A Million Dollars" by Barenaked Ladies, which is a thought that most us poor folks wonder about. Well in No Country For Old Men, Llewelyn Moss (Brolin) finds out what its like when he comes across two million dollars of drug money at the scene of a botched transaction, where everyone is shot to death, including the dogs. You would think he's got it made, but now he is the target of an erie, sinister assassin named Anton (Bardem), sent to retrieve the money and drugs, who uses an air compressor as a weapon. With all this chaos in this small town near the Rio Grande, Sheriff Ed Thom Bell (Jones) doesn't know where to begin as he proceeds to apprehend the man behind theses murders.
I got to say this movie was like a roller-coaster ride, never knowing whats the next turn. Bardem was superb as the menacing murderer with an ethical conscience, his performance alone kept my attention. I didn't quite get the brief Woody Harrelson appearance or some of the meaningless dialog provided by Jones. Writers and directors Ethan and Joel Coen did a good job of maintaining an adrenaline rush throughout the movie until the ending. Let's just say I walked out feeling incomplete and confused.

Starring: Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Woody Harrelson and Kelly Macdonald
Written and directed by: Ethan and Joel Coen
Rated: R

The counts include robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy, kidnapping and burglary.

Story developing ...

Just some shit I wrote

My existence is purely incidental to life itself. Therefore my being is only relative to what I'm seen by, the air I breathe or the things I touch. One must strive to live, but not to exist. We are all born under a seemingly impossible set of intentions that compel us to fight to survive, especially when that existence is threatened. That existence is defined by our will. The will to live or die for something we believe in. What we love or hate means very little compare to who loves or hates us. That gives us power, courage or strength.

~Andre Terrell McWilliams

I wrote that last year after asking a friend, "What feels better, loving someone or being loved by someone?" Ok, I was having a lovey-dovey moment! However, after reading it I thought to myself, "This makes me look really smart!" So I put it on my myspace page. Yes, I have one too!! But I'm digressing. Actually I began thinking less of what I was getting out of life, and more of what I was giving to it. I'm realizing that my attitude has gotten really messed up! I thought because I had it so bad growing up that the world owes me something. Besides that, I 'm a good guy. I mean that I give of myself, too much sometimes. They say that you should give without expecting anything in return (if only that were true). However, when I do stuff for people I don't give it second thought as if I'll get something for it. That is, if I'll do it (I can say no). But I'd be lying if I said that I'd do something and forget about it. (Yeah right!!) I'm making a mental note! That kind of thinking comes from giving of yourself to a person, not giving of yourself to the world.

So you feel bad when you do something for someone else and they don't do something for you when you request a favor. That's only because when you ask someone to do something for you it's expected that they remember all the nice stuff you did for them. That's why you should give of yourself to the world, because the greatest feeling you get from giving comes from something that you didn't expect to get.

I didn't expect a young man to come up me and say that he remembered when I came and spoke to him and other students at his school. And that I made a positive impact on his life. I used to do stuff like that. But somehow in my quest to get the girl, get the money and get the social status. I forgot, what was important.

My creed for the New Year was to say goodbye to the nice guy. (That didn't last but for two seconds) that was to imply that I was being too nice and that I wasn't getting anything out of it. On the contrary, I'm getting life out of life and it is too short to sweat the small stuff – and it's all small stuff. Plus, I'm only nice to a chosen few.

So this year, as I approach the celebration of my 33rd birthday, I've decided to return to me. This means that you see me more rested (I 'm going to bed early at least three times out the week), more physically fit (I got a membership to the gym), more happy, (even if I don't get the girl) more energetic and having more fun (even if I don't make my first million this year.) A wiser man told me, "Learn to enjoy the finer things in life that other people have already purchased." I had to figure that one out.
