THE BOUNTY HUNTER

Plot:

When sexy and recently divorced news reporter Nicole Hurley (Aniston) misses her court date due to her following a hot story, the judge assigns a bench warrant for her arrest. Who gets the task of hunting her down? None other than her ex-husband Milo Boyd (Butler) a former cop turned bounty hunter, who is ecstatic about the assignment, because it gives him the opportunity to get some payback with his ex. Soon the two are back together with Milo trying to take her to jail while also keeping her alive while she is being hunted by someone trying to kill her, keeping her from exposing the story she was investigating.

Reel Talk:

This is your typical, predictable fell out and back in love comedy story. Now that doesn't mean that it's a bad movie, just nothing new. Butler and Aniston made a cute couple that provided a few laughs that makes this film worthwhile but the story leaves a lot out, like you never really know why the two broke up or why he was no longer with the police department. It still makes for a fun film that you can enjoy.

REPO MEN

Plot:

In a futuristic time humans can be re-manufactured to good health by having bad or damaged body parts replaced with new organs by a company known as the Union. But just like a car, if you fall behind on the payments, the repo man will come and retrieve the body part from you. Remy (Law) and Jake (Whitaker) are the two top repo men who work under Union director Frank (Schreiber). Things are good until Remy, by cause of a freak accident happens to need an organ so that he may live. But when he is unable to keep up with the payments he become the target of the other repo men including his former partner Jake who are ordered to reclaim the body part.

Reel Talk:

Not a scary movie, but a scary movie on the bases that this could actually become reality. You need a body part and can't afford it, then someone is assigned to cut you open and take the body part back, is something to really think about. This blood and gore depiction of how the future may be regarding health issues was very interesting at best. The chemistry of Law's charm and Whitaker's brutish brawn makes for a good movie. This film is not recommended for the faint of hearts.

OUR FAMILY WEDDING

Plot:

Lucia (Ferrera) and Marcus (Gross) are madly in love and are about to get married, but they have to inform each of their parents which will not be an easy task especially for the fathers. Lucia's father Miguel (Mencia) is big on traditional Mexican weddings while Marcus' dad Brad (Whitaker) who is a single womanizer only cares that his son is happy. So when the two fathers meet coincidentally and then formally, it is complete pandemonium that nearly breaks the loving couple apart.

Reel Talk:

This latest film version of 'Guess Who's Coming To Dinner' is just what your funny bones need. The cast is so well rounded that every one contributes to this movie even down to the smaller roles. The jabs between Whitaker and Mencia are hilarious, and you can't forget the Charlie Murphy scenes that will have you rolling with laughter. If you can get past the laughter you can catch some very good messages regarding love and relationships that may help some situations today. This is definitely a movie to catch.

GREEN ZONE

Plot:



Green Zone is a depiction of how the United States , after the ouster of Saddam Hussein as the Iraqi ruler, went on a witch hunt to find Weapons Of Mass Destruction (WMD) through out Iraq . Matt Damon plays Miller who heads up a re-con team that seeks out locations that are suppose have WMD, but they always come up short and he becomes driven to find out why they are given false information. When he is tipped that there is a meeting nearby consisting of Al Rawi (Naor) aka The Jake Of Clubs (Saddam’s top army general), he sets out to capture the war criminal and get answers to why the can’t find the weapons. Unfortunately the general eludes him but he soon learns that the U. S. are split on the direction on the future of Iraq, with Clark Poundstone (Kinnear) wanting complete chaos and Martin Brown (Gleeson) trying to resolve things a bit more civil. Miller must decide which side to take while also realizing that the U. S. may be involved with the WMD cover up.





Reel Talk:



Don’t be fooled into thinking that because director Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon who teamed for the Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum and have reunited for this film, that this is a movie about a super spy. It is basically about a soldier that is interested in finding the truth about what is going on during the Iraqi war. This is another movie that attempts to display America ’s conflicting interaction with the political concerns of other countries. Damon portrays the same bravado that he displayed in the Bourne series which is why the trailers will have you believe this film is of the same caliber. Still it is a decent movie at best.

SHE'S OUT OF MY LEAGUE

Plot:



Still trying to recuperate from his girlfriend dumping him Kirk (Baruchel), while at work as an airport TSA screener, he comes to the aid of Molly (Eve), a super sexy blond bombshell who turns heads wherever she goes. To show her appreciation, she invites Kirk and his friend Stainer (Miller) to join her and her friend Patty (Ritter) to an outing, upon which Kirk finds out that Molly is attracted to him. This is a total shock for him, feeling that she is way too beautiful to be interested in him. But the two try to make it work despite the opposition they experience from their friends and families.



Reel Talk:



Not since Something About Mary or American Pie has there been a funnier movie about the perils of dating. Of course this is your typical geek and gorgeous girl or beauty and the beast love story film, but it works because of the fresh and energetic cast, one mainly T.J. Miller who plays the obnoxious Stainer. I don’t think there was a moment that he was in a scene and didn’t get a laugh or the dorky Devon (Torrence) who takes being a best friend to another level when he assist Kirk with one of his problems. And no doubt that Alice Eve is definitely some screen candy that truly compliments Jay Baruchel’s geeky role. Good movie for some good laughs.

BROOKLYN'S FINEST

Plot:

This movie chronicles the events in the lives of three Brooklyn police officers, there's Eddie (Gere) who is retiring in 7 days and just wants to get through it but reluctantly must train a couple of new recruits and there is Sal (Hawke) a high strung, cash strapped officer who will do anything including murder to get the money needed to upgrade the living conditions for his wife and kids. Then there is Tango (Cheadle) who is so deep undercover that he doesn't know which way to turn, with his wife divorcing him and the pressure from the brass to set up his drug dealing best friend Caz (Snipes) who was just recently released from jail, he only wants to get off the assignment and reorganize his life. Although the three have different agendas through out the film, they all wind up in the same vicinity for the climactic ending.

Reel Talk:

This movie reminded me a lot of another one of Cheadles' movie the blockbuster 'Crash' where you have a host of people that there lives are eventually centered toward coming together at the end of the film. But make no mistake, this is no way close to being as good as Crash. Not even the re-teaming of director Antoine Fuqua and actor Ethan Hawke who worked together on 'Training Day' can work their magic on this one. Not that it's a bad movie but the characters or plot just doesn't mesh together and the story can become a little dull at times. Not discrediting the cast which is some of the best in the game just not a great script for them.

THE CRAZIES

Plot:

When some of the folks in a small town in Iowa start acting strange to to point where they become murderous, Sheriff David Dutton (Olyphant) and his deputy Russell (Anderson) investigate only to find out that a plane carrying a highly toxic contaminate crashed in a nearby river and is causing the town people to become violently crazed. Soon the army quarantines the town and begins exterminating the infected people, the sheriff along with his wife Judy (Mitchell) and the deputy must do whatever it takes to keep from getting caught and killed by either the crazies or the army.

Reel Talk:

This movie was like a cross between Outbreak and The Happening. Unlike The Happening thou, it does offer a better story for the movie with a more realistic and believable approach. But like most horror / thriller movie, there's the stupidity where someone is not following instructions or paying attention to whats going on that makes the movie entertaining. Has some decent suspense moments and is violent but not too gory. Still not suitable for children.

COP OUT

Plot:

After a botched drug investigation, Detectives Jimmy Monroe (Willis) and Paul Hodges (Morgan) are suspended without pay leaving Jimmy in a bad situation since he has to pay for his daughter's wedding or allow her gloating step father to takeover. So while trying to sell his valuable collectors baseball card to get the money he is robbed by Dave (Scott), a wise cracking joker who sells the card to Poh Boy (Diaz), a drug dealer who is trying to locate his Mercedes Benz that was stolen earlier. When the two detectives set out to retrieve the card, they find out that it leads them back to their previous investigation while they must also try to clear themselves from being casted as rogue cops.

Reel Talk:

This is your typical buddy cop movie, yet, it is a hilariously funny one. I got to be honest and say that I didn't have high expectations going into the screening for this movie (cause not a big Tracy Morgan fan), but this is truly some of his best work. The combination of him and Willis playing good cop/bad cop with Tracy citing quotes from various movies, along with the scene steal Seann William Scott, this makes for one of the more funnier cop buddy movies in awhile. Not a great movie, but very funny and worth seeing.

BLOOD DONE SIGNED MY NAME

Plot:

This film is based on the true story about Henry Marrow, an African American who just returned home to his rural town in North Carolina from the war during 1970 only to be beaten and then shot to death by one of the town's bigot Robert Teel (Searcy) and his sons. This creates an even greater divide among the cultures to the point of a potential race riot brewing while the trial is taking place. It is during this time that a young Ben Chavis (Parker) becomes involved with the civil rights movement by the fiery Golden Frinks (Omilami) to help Negros to achieve equality and also Reverend Vernon Tyson (Schroder) tries to segregate his congregation by welcoming African Americans to the church.

Reel Talk:

Movies that relate to race issues are always heart wrenching because to see what people had to go through by way of humiliation, violence and death because of their skin color is disturbing. But we need movies like these to enlighten us about the way things were regarding racism and how we need to constantly make changes today. This is a must see film, I would also encourage that schools/colleges get behind this film as educational material for their students. Knowledge is power.

FIVE K ONE

Plot:

Tiger (Forty Da Great) and Remone (Jackson) have been friends since childhood and now have become partners in one of the city's biggest and deadliest drug organizations. Tiger who lives by the code 'once in always in' will stop at nothing to solidify himself as the boss, while Remone is beginning to have second thoughts about his life as a thug and contemplates becoming legit. The two must come to terms so that they can stay steps ahead of the haters and law enforcement that wants to bring the demise of their empire. Applying un-relenting violence and death to anyone that tries to betray or defy the rules relating to life as a hustler.

Reel Talk:

Writer, producer and director Dionciel 'Donny' Armstrong's depiction of the grit and grimy life of a thug in the city is compelling. Filmed entirely and mostly casted in Detroit with the exception of veteran actors Clifton Powell, Melvin Jackson Jr. and A.J. Johnson, the acting was pretty good . Although this was a low budget production, The cinematography was also well done for the young director who also brought us the street documentary film "Street Life" and Rap Files. He says that this is only getting his feet wet as he is gearing up to produce even more films in the future. For his Red Carpet screening in January he brought that Hollywood flair to Detroit by having most of the cast members there including Powell and Jackson who gave great praise and thanks to the promising director for being involved with his project.
