First Sunday

First Sunday is David Talbert's first feature film as both director and writer. Talbert, famously know for his plays, hooked up with Ice Cube to bring us this comedy film about two friends, Durell (Cube) and LeeJohn (Morgan), repeat offenders that must raise some big bucks to save whats left of their lives (literally). The only thing that they can come up with is to rob the neighborhood Church on first Sunday. This plan goes array when the two find out that someone within the church has beat them to the loot, but is still in the church among the hostages that they are holding.
The combination of Cube and Morgan is not the best, but will suffice for the sack of this movie. The movie is funny, just not hilariously funny. Some of the funniest moments are when Katt Williams, playing the choir director, opens his mouth. Also, you got to catch the cameo of Rickey Smiley as Sister Jenkins.
Detroit was privileged to one of the Red Carpet screenings for First Sunday, which was hosted by David Talbert and the lovely Loretta Devine who plays Sister Doris in the movie.
